First Week Home

The first week home was definitely an adjustment for all of us. Kip took 3 weeks off from work to be home with us which was a HUGE help. We had a lot of visitors and our friends and family were so sweet to bring us food so that we didn't have to cook.

We took Raelyn to her first doctor's appointment on Tuesday, May 23. Dr. Barnhart said she looked good but had lost a little bit of weight (I think it was a difference in the scales) so she told us to come back the following week to check her weight. She did so good at the doctor's office and just cried for a second when she got her shot. That afternoon we had Julie, from Pictures by Julie, come and take some photos for us. She was so patient (which was great because Raelyn decided to scream for about an hour before we could get her asleep for the pictures). I know Julie stayed at our house a lot longer than she was planning to but we love how the pictures turned out.

That evening and the next few nights Raelyn continued to be fussy and after talking to our friends who had just had a baby we decided that she might not be getting enough milk. So, we gave her a bottle of formula and she seemed a lot happier and slept longer. From that point on I decided to start pumping milk for her and feeding her bottles because she always fell asleep nursing (even if we tickled her, took her clothes off, put cold water on her, etc.). Bottle feeding was not the most convenient thing for me as I felt like I was attached to a breast pump but it was nice that Kip could help feed her. We stayed busy during our first week home and Mommy and Daddy even had a date night that Friday. We went to see Hangover 3 and Mimi watched Raelyn for us.
