Daytona!

Baby G got to take her first plane ride to Daytona on February 15. I was so excited to have the opportunity to go work the UNOH Battle at the Beach Late Model race with my dad and my racing buddies. It was a fun weekend... definitely not warm Florida weather like I had hoped but I brought enough clothes to stay somewhat warm. My friend Anita picked me up bright and early on Friday morning and we headed to the airport. We had a layover in Charlotte where we met up with some of our other race friends/officials before heading on to Daytona. We watched the ARCA race from the warm suite but then got sent out into the freezing cold weather to watch the Sprint Unlimited race. It was awesome to see the Sprint Cup cars race at Daytona but a few laps was enough...we went back to the hotel, ordered food, and watched the rest of the race in the hotel lobby.

On Saturday we got signed in and Darlene and I spent our free morning buying sunglasses, pizza, and exploring Daytona (including the infield of the track which is like a city on it's own). Our race was actually held on the backstretch of the track and the garage area was outside of the track so it didn't really feel like we were at Daytona, but it was fun anyway. Sunday started our two-days of racing excitement with tech inspections/paperwork while trying to stay warm in the "severe cold weather" (according to their news station). It warmed up for race day and I actually got sunburned but at least I felt like I was in Florida.

The race was very exciting. I got to sit in the tower with dad and my scoring friends and help with the lineups, etc. We flew out bright and early Tuesday morning to head home. It was a great trip! Baby G seemed to know something was going on every time we got on a plane because she was start kicking. I hope she enjoys racing because this is technically her 2nd race while she has been hanging out in my belly and I know she will be going to many many more throughout her life since she has racing in her blood like her mommy!
